Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has reacted strongly to media reports regarding the central government decision of making 80 per cent marks in intermediate level as cut-off for the IIT entrance test.
Terming such a step as anti-student, she said the parameter would jeopardise the future of lakhs of students. She also wrote a letter to Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal today in this regard.
The chief minister added that only such a government, which cared precious little for the common man, and kept the interest of the privileged class in mind, could take such a decision.
In her letter, she urged the minister to reverse any such order immediately and maintained that any decision on matters of education should be taken keeping in mind the interest of students.
She said that the government should instead focus on dismantling dominance of coaching institutes and resolving the irregularities in entrance tests rather than taking such measures, which lack “foresight and wisdom.”
