He was speaking at a conference organised by the Indian Hernia Society here on treating the disease through minimal invasive methods.
"Unless doctors keep themselves updated, patients cannot benefit from the latest findings and research.
Advancements in medical science are happening fast in the world and medical fraternity should catch up with new developments," the chief minister said.
They (medical fraternity) must constantly engage in research and devise methods of improving patient care. Deliberations and interactions among professionals help to develop newer methods and approaches to address problems, Azad said.
The government has taken measures to improve health-care in the state. Two government hospitals are being upgraded at a cost of Rs 120 crore each.
Besides, 33 district and sub-district hospitals are also being upgraded. There are plans for all primary health centres and dispensaries to have new buildings and equipments, he said.
