Fapcci organised one-day seminar on 'Contract Labour System and the Contract Labour (regulation and abolition) AP Amendment Act 2003' on January 3. Inaugurating the seminar, AP high court judge PS Narayana said the main purpose of enacting the Act was to regulate employment of contract labour in certain categories, abolish it in certain situations, and provide welfare amenities to the contract labour. Priyadarshi Dash, the principal secretary (labour, employment, training and factories), said there was large-scale absenteeism in the industry due to a large number of holidays, causing production loss and national loss. This necessitated employment of contract labour at least in non-core activities.
