The government today said the country's milk and milk product exports have gone up to Rs 1,014.15 crore during the first 10 months of 2008-09 fiscal compared to the previous fiscal.
The exports stood at Rs 960.24 crore in 2007-08 fiscal and at Rs 497.09 crore during 2006-07, Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution K V Thomas said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, the import of milk and milk products declined from Rs 112 crore in 2006-07 financial year to Rs 71.02 crore during April 2008 to January 2009 period, it said.
Quoting the National Sample Survey 63rd round (2006-07) the minister said the average monthly consumer expenditure per person on milk and milk products is Rs 56 and Rs 97 in rural and urban areas, respectively.
