The officer in charge of operations at the PCDF, SC Gupta, said the Meerut and Noida units supplied milk for Mother Dairy. He said there was an agreement to supply 600,000 litres of milk to Delhi every day. However, supply has been reduced to 300,000 litres.
Principal Secretary and Milk Commissioner Ashok Kumar told Business Standard in the summer the supply of milk got affected every year. "At present Parag Dairy is meeting the demand in Lucknow and other cities of UP but there can be a crisis anytime."
According to officials of Parag Dairy, normally production units get 1 million litres of milk per day and it increases to 1.5 million litres in the winter. In summer the supply of milk to Parag Dairy comes down to 700,000-800,000 litres per day.
Acccording to the general manager of Parag, SK Prasad, the units of PCDF have ample milk powder and butter cream to meet the demand in UP, where milk production is 39.8 million litres a day, the highest in the country, and of this Parag gets 1-1.5 million litres a day.
Ashok Kumar said there were instances of the state government banning the production and sale of items like paneer, chena and sweets, in the past. And such a ban cannot be ruled out in the near future, according to him.
