The Karnataka government has decided to adopt the public distribution system (PDS) model of Chhattisgarh, official sources said.

Karnataka food and civil supplies minister H Halappa, who was on a day’s visit to the tribal state, along with his team, to study the system was very impressed with the schemes run by the Chhattisgarh goverment and has expressed his willingness to implement it in his state, they said.

Halappa met Chhattisgarh minister Pannulal Mohle yesterday and discussed about rice and salt distributed to the poor by fair price shops in the state, sources said. Mohle informed his neighbouring state counterpart about the data computerisation of the PDS system for the benefit of the citizens, through which they can access details of transportation and foodgrains through SMS after registering on the website. He was also told about the community stakes as well as the transparency practised in the PDS system, they added.
