Continuing discussions to bring a strong Lok Pal Bill, representatives of the National Minority Commission, who met members of the standing committee on personnel, public grievance, law and justice, have suggested that the panel must include adequate representation of minority communities.

The demand to give adequate representation to minority communities may give a political colour to the debate, as several political parties are also demanding representation of scheduled caste, schedules tribes and other backward castes. Minority groups have been demanding that the Lok Pal members’ panel include minority community members, a demand supported by several political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. The standing committee members had earlier invited people from the Dalit community, as members of the community had alleged that the anti-corruption movement didn’t have a single dalit member.
