Election results in two seats of Konkan region have seen the defeats of union Minister for Minority Affairs A R Antulay and former Power Minister Suresh Prabhu.
Antulay contesting from Raigad was defeated by another former union Minister Anant Gite by 1,45,923 votes.
Antulay polled 2,65,329 votes as against 4,11,252 of Gite. Antulay, 80-year-old former Chief Minister was seeking a 5th term in the Lok Sabha.
Raigad constituency was carved out of parts of erstwhile Ratnagiri and Kulaba Lok Sabha seats during delimitation.
This will be Gite's 5th term in the Lok Sabha, who was Power Minister in the NDA government.
Antulay's defeat is being attributed to Shiv Sena and PWP alliance and rebellion from within the Congress against his candidature. Pravin Thakur, son of Congress sitting MLA Madhu Thakur contested as an independent against Antulay.
