The ministry of new and renewable energy has proposed 20 plants to manufacture bio CNG produced from biogas-based on press mud. These projects, whose production capacity range between 500 cubic meter per day and 10,000 cubic meter day and above, entail an investment of Rs 350 crore. At present, two such plants are in operational — in Maharashtra (500 cubic meter per day capacity) and Punjab (1,000 cubic meter per day capacity). However, a project with bio gas production of 10,000 cubic meter per day is being developed by Spectrum Renewable Energy and Warana Sugar Ltd in the sugarcane rich Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. The project entails an investment of Rs 32 crore and would be commissioned in April.
