Modi asks Punjab farmers to employ modern water conservation practices

Asks for judicious use of chemical fertilisers; flays those misleading farmers

Addressing a public meeting, after paying homage to the great martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, near Ferozpur in Punjab, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon farmers of Punjab to take the lead in adopting modern water conservation practices and be judicious in the use of chemical fertilisers.

Modi said he is committed to build an India where all youth have employment, and the poorest of the poor are also benefited by growth. He outlined his vision of ‘Housing for All’ by 2022, and Swachh Bharat by 2019.

The prime minister criticised those who were misleading farmers, and said the Union government is working on policies to promote the welfare of farmers.

In this regard, Modi emphasised initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana and the Soil Health Card. Narendra Modi said his government would provide relief to farmers affected by the recent unseasonal rains.

The prime minister also announced the setting up of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Post Graduate Institute for Horticulture Research and Education at Amritsar.
