Modi extends support to Japanese govt

Expressing his grieve and sympathy with the people of Japan caught in the earthquake, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said that the state government and the people of Gujarat empathised and stood by the Japanese at this hour of tragedy accompanying the tsunami and tremor. The state expressed its readiness to offer any possible assistance.

Japan has been partnering the state government for past two Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summits held in 2009 and 2011, respectively.

Recalling the association with Gujarat, Modi mentioned that Japan had become partner of progress with the state for the last several years. Modi spoke to Akitaki Saiki, ambassador designate of Japan to India and expressed his sympathy as well as support to the Government and the people of Japan.

Modi offered his support and help, especially to the people of Gujarat living in Japan and instructed the resident commissioner of the government of Gujarat, based at New Delhi, to coordinate with the Government of India as well as the Embassy of Japan to render any assistance required.

The Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) has also been asked to be ready to provide any assistance sought and support to the affected countries.
