Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the 122-meter high tower, tallest in the state, at the Gujarat International Financial Tec (GIFT) City in state capital Gandhinagar.

He pointed out that the 28-floor tower will be an inspiration and a point of reference for initiatives coming up in the future and termed it as a catalyst that would enhance the development process in Gujarat.

After the commissioning of the first high rise tower on Thursday the second tower of the same height is likely to open in March later this year.

“This is not only a building or a money minting initiative. It will be a hub for commerce worth millions and that too on the click of a mouse,” Modi said. He said that the project has a great scope for providing employment for the youth.

“We are working with a long-term thought. One MoU was signed on Thursday to have primary schools for those who will work here. We are working for the future of those who will work here as well,” Modi declared.

Talking about green initiatives Modi said, “People talk of green technology. We have given due importance to it in GIFT. We are working towards creating an environment friendly city.” He added, “When such hub of financial activity is created, its not limited to the building only. Its influence spreads to the entire state.”

GIFT is a globally benchmarked International Financial Service Centre (IFSC) being developed in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Domestic Finance Centre (DFC) in non-SEZ area.

It is spread over an area of 886 acres. The Rs 78,000 crore GIFT Project is expected to create 1 million new jobs in 10 years. GIFT City is being developed through Gujarat International Finance Tec-City Co. Ltd. (GIFTCL) a joint venture company of Government of Gujarat (GoG) and Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS).

The first two towers of GIFT with 28 floors and 122 metres height each have got the distinction of being the tallest buildings in the state of Gujarat. The towers height had to be restricted to 122 metres due to their proximity to the Ahmedabad airport.
