Suspended IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi’s lawyer, Mehmood M Abdi, today submitted a 160-page reply — and 9000 pages of supporting documents — to the showcause notice issued by the BCCI.
“The reply to BCCI deals with all the allegations against Modi. The showcause notice against him should be immediately revoked and Modi should be reinstated as the IPL commissioner,” said Abdi after submitting the documents to BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty. He, however, refused to divulge the deails.
BCCI had levelled five charges against Modi — receiving kickbacks of $80 million; tampering of sealed bids before team auctions; holding an undisclosed stake in 3 IPL teams viz Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders; trying to arm twist the Kochi-based Rendezvous Sports from withdrawing after a successful bid; involvement in irregularities in awarding of broadcast and internet rights; and unilaerally taking decisions in running the tournament.
