Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today launched an attack on the Congress-led government at the Centre after the Minister of State for Home, Amit Shah, was forced to resign following the CBI chargesheet over the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case. Shah - considered a close aide of the CM - is still in hiding and sent his resignation to Modi on Saturday morning. Modi accepted the same but maintained that Shah was innocent and all allegations levelled against him were false.

Modi alleged the Congress was trying to take revenge for the 2007 assembly election defeat and trying to divert public attention away from its all-round failure.

"The Congress has failed in curtailing the price rise, couldn't give justice to the Bhopal gas victims, went to Pakistan and came back with nothing, and Kashmir is burning again. So, this is a ploy of the government to divert attention," Modi said on the sidelines of the NDC meet.

"During the 2007 elections, Congress had projected Sohrabuddin as a national hero but suffered a huge loss. This is a conspiracy against the Gujarat government and its people. They are trying to avenge the 2007 election loss."
