Haryana government has instructed the Deputy Commissioners of nine districts to conduct special ‘girdawari’ (record of land cultivation) for the crops damaged due to recent rains. The state has released funds amounting to over Rs 1.53 crore to various Deputy Commissioners to distribute relief for the tubewells damaged due to floods in the state. Besides, the government has also released funds amounting to about Rs 11.31 crore to the farmers whose crops were damaged due to floods.
Stating this here today, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Naresh Gulati, said that considering the damage to crops due to the recent flood in the Yamuna and heavy rainfall, the Deputy Commissioners of Yamuna Nagar, Karnal, Panipat, Palwal, Mewat, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Bhiwani and Faridabad had been instructed to conduct special girdawari in the case of damaged crops.
The relief for damaged tubewells would be paid as Rs 7,500 per damaged tubewell. The compensation amount for crop had been sanctioned keeping in view the announcement of Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda to enhance the norms of relief at the rate of Rs 500 per damaged acre. Government had already released funds in accordance with State Relief Norms which were much higher than the Centre Relief Norms.
Discussing the flood situation in the state, he said that the flood water had started flowing back into the Yamuna river in district Yamunanagar. Right Side Longitudinal Downstream Embankment (RSLDE) which got damaged due to heavy water flow in the river was being carefully monitored and assistance of Army authorities was being taken to control further damage to the bund. A ring bund along the damaged embankment had been constructed at a distance of about 750 feet, so that water did not spill over beyond the ring bund. The ring bund was also being strengthened to take care of additional discharge in river.
Gulati said that assistance of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) had also been sought. The field staff of Irrigation Department along with District Administration in Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat,
Faridabad and Palwal districts was on alert and was taking all possible measures for protection of the vulnerable sites.
