According to director of the Department of Tourism, Sabyasachi Ghosh, the state government is also a giving a boost to tourism by undertaking projects worth Rs 4.5 crore.
The state views the tourism sector as a provider of employment and as a contributor to economic growth and development of tourist regions.
Stating that the state was registering an annual growth rate 10 per cent in tourist arrivals, he said that over 600,000 international tourists came to the state last year.
Giving details about the three-day 'Travel & Tourism Fair (TTF) 2008', being held here from Friday, Gosh said the event, being held annually for the past six years, would provide an opportunity to the general public as well to discuss and finalise customised travel plans to different destinations in the world.
Sanjiv Agarwal , chairman and managing director of Fairfest Media Limited, the organisers of TTF, said besides representation from 11 states across the country, travel traders from Egypt, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Dubai and Thailand would take part in the event.
