MP govt keen on daily IA flights to Khajuraho

As the famous Khajuraho festival of dances draws near, the Madhya Pradesh government today said it was making efforts to turn the current three-days-a-week Indian Airlines service to the temple town into a daily affair even as it admitted that the road link to the tourist destination was not up to the mark.

"For some time Indian Airlines stopped its service to Khajuraho citing shortage of pilots. While there is a daily flight being operated by Jet Airways, Indian Airlines has also resumed services but on alternate days," Pawan Jain, director, culture, Madhya Pradesh government, told reporters here.

"We are trying that by the time the festival starts, the IA flight is also made a daily service," he added.

Jain said the Madhya Pradesh government was keen on improving the air service to Khajuraho as the road link between Jhansi and the temple town was not good. "There are patches on the Jhansi-Khajuraho stretch, 12 km in all, where the road is not so good," he said.

Jain, however, added that work was on to improve the Jhansi-Khajuraho road.

A large number of tourists disembarked at the Jhansi railway station, travelling by road to reach the temple town, he said.
