The Madhya Pradesh government today said it would provide 130 acres of land to software services exporter Infosys for setting up a special economic zone (SEZ) in the state and not 100 acres, as announced earlier.

"We had shown Infosys 130 acres of land in Indore's super corridor. But during the meeting of a Group of Ministers in December last year, it was proposed to allot only 100 acres of land to the company. We accept it was a technical mistake," State Information Technology Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said.

He added that the state government is ready to allot 130 acres of land to the company, as requested by Infosys, instead of the 100 acres announced last month, so that the IT giant can approach the Centre for approval for its SEZ.

In December, the state government had granted 100 acres of land to both Infosys and the country's largest software services exporter, TCS, to set up SEZs in the state.

The minister said a proposal in this regard is being sent to the company with the expectation that the Board of Approval would approve the SEZ proposals in its next meeting.

"We are in talks with the Madhya Pradesh government, but we'll not be able to share any information till we get an official communication from them," an Infosys spokesperson said.

The land was allotted to the two companies at a rate of Rs 20 lakh per acre.

It is learnt that the BOA, headed by Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar, will take a decision on TCS's SEZ in its next meeting scheduled on January 24.

Vijayvargiya said, "We are hopeful that after the Centre's approval, Infosys and TCS will start work on their projects by April."
