These trees would not only increase fuel wood availability, but would also lessen biological pressure on forests, the release said.

The state government was making efforts for getting requisite funds for the scheme's implementation from National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) for the year 2008-09.

With all the districts in the state covered under the NREGS, the Enery Forest Scheme would be implemented in maximum number of villages for providing fodder and fuel wood.

Similarly, a scheme has been introduced to develop meadows on the fallow land near villages where saplings of species suitable for fodder are planted. During the year 2007-08, meadows were developed on 13,943 hectare land in 577 villages.

Besides, 15 crore Mandays have also been generated during the last four and half years through various forestry schemes in the rural areas.
