Sharjah has evinced keen interest in opening an NRI university in Madhya Pradesh. |
"It will be a $15-million proposal. We will allot them land free of cost, and the Indian Business Processing Council will fund the project," Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Babulal Gaur told Business Standard. |
"It will be a branch of Sharjah NRI University," said a government spokesperson who was part of the chief minister's delegation to Sharjah. |
The university will be for the wards and children of Non-Resident Indians. "The idea is to attune them to Indian culture," said the spokesperson. "The university will have courses for the service sector instead of technical courses." |
The state government has assured the Sharjah Chambers of Commerce and Industry that land worth Rs 25 crore will be acquired for the university. |
"It will take hardly a year to take shape, we will acquire land for them at a place of their choice," said Ivy Miller Chahal, principal secretary (rural industries), who was part of the delegation. |
