Despite a separate chapter of concessions and sops for the textile sector and fresh proposals to overhaul the existing Industrial Investment Promotion Policy, MP's scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) has come a cropper.

None lobbied for a separate textile park, despite investment proposals in the sector pouring in.

To boost exports in the textile sector, the Union Ministry for Textiles launched the SITP in 2005 by merging the Apparel Parks for Export Scheme and the Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme.

The primary objective of the scheme is to provide the industry with world-class infrastructure facilities for setting up of textile units in clusters.

"The Union government had sanctioned 25 textile parks in various states but not Madhya Pradesh. The MP government made no efforts to get even one park that could have been taken shape with a central support of Rs 40 crore," a source in the textile industry told Business Standard.

The department of industries had planned a textile park in Satlapur (near Bhopal). The scheme in other states is being implemented through special purpose vehicles.

Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS) has been appointed as the project management consultant for implement the scheme. The state, according to industry sources, produces 175,000 tonnes of spun yarn per month.
