Tejaswini Ramesh, sitting MP and Congress candidate contesting the Lok Sabha seat from Bangalore Rural assembly segment, has filed a police complaint, saying she was robbed of Rs 12.50 lakh by three persons posing as election officers.

In her complaint on April 22, Tejaswini said three persons stopped the car in which her personal assistant was going to Magadi with her driver. They began checking the vehicle and found some money in it, police said today.

"On finding Rs 12.50 lakh cash inside the car, they demanded to know whom it belonged to. When told by my PA that it (money) belonged to me, they threatened they would file a complaint against me to the EC. My assistant requested them not to do so and handed over the money," she said.

"Ultimately it turned out that the three were fake election officers," Tejaswini said.

The case is being investigated.
