Chennai-based Sri Ramachandra University has signed an MoU with the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh and London, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow to offer Part 2 (clinical) of the MRCP qualifying examinations. |
MRCP is an entrance exam for higher training of medical practitioners in the UK. It is the examination for the Diploma of Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom. |
"This facility affords enormous advantages in terms of logistics and other expenses, including travel," Georgie Abraham, professor of medicine and MRCP examiner and co-ordinator, told reporters. |
The new centre will help doctors in India and neighbouring countries like Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Thailand appear for all components of the MRCP examination without having to travel to the United Kingdom. |
Theory examinations for the MRCP degree are being conducted at Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Kerala in India. However, the all-important clinical component of the examination, which involves patient encounter sessions, is being introduced for the first time in India, he added. |
