Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday launched an attack on the Janata Dal government that has been in power in Bihar and called upon his partymen to work towards forming a Samajwadi Party government in the state.

dressing a public rally here, he said the people of the state were fed up with lack of development and welfare schemes in the state. Bihar now deserves a government which would deliver goods to all sections of the society without any discrimination.

Yadav urged partymen to shun casteism and make sustained efforts to help help form the government. It may take one or two elections, but my party is destined to be in power ultimately.

Without naming, the Samajwadi Party leader said the Bihar government had failed to solve the problems of farmers, jute mill workers and women. Many schemes had failed to take off and existed merely on paper, he said.

Yadav said right from the days of Indias freedom struggle, Bihar had played a major role in Indian politics in the form of Samajwadi movement.

The time has come now for the Samajwadi party to become strong in Bihar, like it had in Uttar Pradesh, he said.

Referring to seat adjustments in the last Lok Sabha elections, he said Samajwadi Party had wanted four seats from Janata Dal to contest in Bihar, but was given only one. On the other hand, his party gave them 16 seats to contest in Uttar Pradesh.

Also we could have formed our own government in Uttar Pradesh, had the front constituents been more adjusting. But, he said, I have the consolation that I have managed stop communal forces from coming to power in UP and in the Centre.

He criticised the Bahujan Samaj Party for hobnobbing with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). How can we support a party which is negotiating with the communal forces?
