With the July 26, 2005 deluge still fresh in the minds of the people, offices and schools marked low attendence as people preferred to stay back home.
Similarly, office goers from south Mumbai preferred to leave early for home due to the delays in suburban rail traffic.
Two persons who had gone for a swim at the Chenna river in neighbouring Thane district were drowned, while another person was swept by tidal waves at Worli seaface yesteday, police said.
After a brief let-up, moderate rainfall has resumed since 2.30 pm leading to traffic bottlenecks and local train services thrown out of gear.
Earlier in the days, heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai for the fourth consecutive day today, leading to water-logging in low-lying areas and affecting road, rail and air traffic in the metropolis.
Water-logging has been reported from several places including Andheri, Khar, Malad, Matunga and all subways with the rainfall intensifying since last evening, official sources said.
Traffic has been diverted at places from where water-logging was reported.
Suburban railway traffic was also adversely affected with harbour line, Western Railway and Central Railway trains running 10 to 15 minutes behind schedule, they said.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Johny Joseph said the BMC authorities were monitoring the situation and has asked the citizens to report any rain-related incidents, inlcluding water-logging, to the civic control room, set up for the purpose.
