The employees of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) will go on a strike on Tuesday against a move by the bank management and the Central government to change the parity in pay scales and other superannuation benefits between Nabard and the Reserve Bank of India employees.

National Bank Officers' Association (NBOA) and All India Nabard Employees Association (AINBEA), representing the entire officers and workmen staff of Nabard, will strike work on Tuesday.

Work at the Nabard regional office will be affected because of the strike call. The strike notice has been given to the management and employees have decided to further intensify the agitation, with a march to parliament being planned which will be attended by Nabard employees across the country.

Nabard Officers Association, Gujarat secretary N S Yadav said that of late, deliberate attempts are being made by the management and the union government to disturb the established system, where employees of the RBI and Nabard receive the same pay packages and other benefits.

"The recent updating in pension, which has been effected by RBI for its employees, has not been made applicable to Nabard employees in spite of several representations," said Yadav.

He added that the special compensatory allowance (SCA) which is paid to officers of RBI is also not extended to Nabard officers.

Pradeep Nair, secretary, Nabard Employees Association, Gujarat, said that Nabard is an apex financial institution in the field of agriculture and rural development and since its inception in 1982, it has taken over all functions of RBI which RBI looked after through Agriculture Credit Development (ACD) department and Agriculture Refinance Development Corporation (ARDC).

"The pay scales and service conditions of Nabard and RBI employees were at par since 1982, but the present management and Central government want to change it," Nair said.

As part of the agitation, employees wore black badges on August 12 and held demonstrations across the country on August 17.
