The Gujarat government has decided to develop canal tourism on the banks of Narmada river along the stretch of Sardar Sarovar Dam to Bharuch. The government is looking to develop the area as an international tourism hub.
In order to take a stock on the progress of state government's ambitious Rs 2500-crore Statue of Unity project, a meeting of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust was convened under the chairmanship of state chief minister, Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar on Thursday. It was resolved at the meeting to build a 182-meter high statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the banks of Narmada river. So far, six different studies including total station survey, variation in water level and high flood level survey, widn and water velocity survey, seismic study survey, geological survey and model study has been made. The environment impact assessment study is underway, a state government statement said. As a part of developing the area an international tourism spot, the work order for projects at Garudeshwar, near Bharuch. Also, the state government is considering the possibilities of metro rail and a six lane highway between Vadodara and Kewadia.
