Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today assured in the state Assembly that the Narmada river water will be brought to Bhopal soon.
The Chief Minister's assurance came during Question Hour when the Congress MLA Arif Aqueel raised the issue of delay in implementation of the project to bring Narmada river water to the state capital.
Intervening on the issue, Chouhan assured the House that the Government is very serious on the issue of water crisis in Bhopal and is taking all steps to bring the Narmada river water soon.
Chouhan also informed the House that initially the project got delayed as the state government had to seek the permission from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest for laying down pipeline in the forest area and since the Centre has given its approval late, the project got delayed.
However, Aqueel insisited on providing a specific deadline for the completion of the project and when his demand was not fulfilled, he alone staged a walkout from the House.
Earlier, the state Public Health Engineering Department Minister, Gauri Shankar Bisen informed the House that 55-56 per cent work of the Narmada project has been completed and so far Rs 190 crore were spent on it. He also assured the House that the government will ensure that there will be no shortage of funds for the project.
