The Nathpa Jhakri hydro electric project aims to repeat last year’s feat of producing 6,600 million units of power in the fiscal 2009-10.
Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL), a joint venture company of the Centre and the Himachal Pradesh government, runs the 1,500 Mw Nathpa Jhakri project, the country’s largest hydro electric project.
SJVNL recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect with power secretary VS Sampat in New Delhi. The energy generation is expected to realise Rs 1,436 as revenue in the entire year, SJVNL officials said here on Wednesday.
The power station achieved the highest-ever generation of 6,609 mu in the last fiscal year, against the set target of 6,600 mu.
The energy generation has been gradually growing each year since the project came into operation in 2003.
It took 15 years to complete the project built on the Sutlej river in the mountainous tribal Kinnaur district for Rs 8,657 crore.
