The Union minister of state for science and technology, Kapil Sibal, on Friday informed chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy that a large National Animal Resource facility for biomedical research would be opened in Hyderabad.

Sibal told the chief minister that the proposed animal facility would be a unique world-class contract research organisation with international accreditation to conduct pre-clinical toxicological evaluation of new drugs, vaccines, pharma, biotech and transgenic products developed in the country and outside.

The Rs 250-crore facility is likely to come up over an area of 100 acres in Genome valley.

He said the biotech research activities are being done exceptionally well in the state.

A sophisticated tsunami warning centre would also be set up at a cost of Rs 125 crore at 'Incois' and start functioning by 2007 in Hyderabad, according to an official press release.
