The National Census-2011would start in Orissa from 7 April 2010. The household population survey would collect data on access of families to certain amenities like drinking water, lighting, toilet, kitchen, fuel for cooking, radio, computer, laptop, telephone, mobile, bicycle, scooter, motor cycle, moped, car, jeep ,van and banking services.
The information on number of rooms in a house, the type of house, educational qualification of the family members also forms part of the survey. The preparation for the new census was reviewed in a high level meeting chaired by the revenue and disaster management minister Surya Narayan Patro.
C Chandramouli, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, the district collectors, who have been designated as the Principal Census Officers (PCO), additional district magistrates and all the three Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) attended today’s meeting. Talking to the media after the meeting Patro said, 73,702 enumerators and 12,284 supervisors will be engaged in Orissa. About 27 lakh people would be involved in the exercise across the country.
