Human resource development is key to development of an economy and therefore, there should be huge investment in human capital, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the National HR Symposium organised by National Human Resource Development (NHRD) Network at the KIIT University here on Friday.
“Much emphasis has been given on vocationalisation of education and setting up community colleges to make the youth self-employed by the state government. I appeal different organizations to invest more on human capital, because organizations that invest on human capital invest for the future,” he said at the inaugural session of the two-day long seminar.
Human Development Index (HDI) reveals that higher the human capital formation due to good standard of health and education, higher is the per capita income of the nation, Patnaik said.
The state is attracting huge investments in mining and other sectors and hence, there is a need to create a pool of professionals as per the industry need for the growth of the state, he said.
Of late, Odisha has been getting due importance in the field of education as many private and government institutions of national repute are opening their branches here, paving path for the state to become a knowledge hub in east India. The state government has even opened an International Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) with its own fund.
In his keynote address, T. V. Rao, Founder of NHRD Network underscored the importance of having the right policy to develop human resources. In health sector too, health workers including doctors should come forward towards development of human resources, he added.

Talking about exploring human resource potential of the country, S Y Siddiqui, National President of NHRD and chief operating officer (Administration, IT and Finance) of Maruti Suzuki said, youth power is one of the biggest advantages of India. He cautioned that reliance on Government for all kind of development will affect development of human capital.
“We must take steps with our own knowledge and resources to develop the human resource,” he said.
