Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today asked City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) officials to carry out rehabilitation of project-affected persons (PAPs) who will be displaced due to the Navi Mumbai airport in consultation with villagers to ensure smooth land acquisition and completion of the project on time.The Rs 4,665 crore Navi Mumbai airport will come up on around 1,600 hectare at Ulve and seven other villages near Panvel of which 1,150 hectare is already in possession of Cidco. The project is expected to takeoff by 2012, and will be developed on the public-private partnership model. It is expected that Cidco will have to carry out rehabilitation of around 15,000 families that will be displaced due to the project. Deshmukh give the instructions over rehabilitation at a review meeting called at his office in Mantralya today.Tata Institute of Social Sciences is carrying out a socio-economic survey to determine the kind of vocational training the villagers need to be given so that they can find jobs at the airport and special economic zone (SEZ) coming up in its proximity.Pune-based Central Water and Power Research Station has been asked to carry out hydrological study to assess the impact the airport might have on the Panvel creek.Cidco officials told Desmukh that an application has been moved with Costal Regulatory Zone Management Authority to seek necessary clearances under the CRZ Act.
