According to sources, Mathur is likely to be the next Chairperson of CEA as the Appointments Committee of Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is believed to have approved her name for the post.
Mathur, 58, has over 34 years of experience in the Power Sector. An Electronics & Communication Engineer from IIT Roorkee, she is an M Tech from IIT, Delhi.

She looks after formulation of policies for safe, secure and economic operation of regional grids and co-ordination of five regional grids through Regional Power committee, among other things.
She has also served the organisation in the capacity of Chief Engineer.
Having joined CEA in 1979 as Assistant Director, she has worked in the area of Power system Protection and Instrumentation and appraisal of transmission schemes.
At present, Ravinder Member (Power System) CEA is holding the additional charge of the Chairman of the organisation for a period of three months.
He was elevated to the post, on August 1, after A S Bakshi superannuated on July 31.
