For instance, farmers in the remote villages of Kalyanpur taluka of this district need not to wait in front of the collectorate for explosives license issued only by the district collector.

The application filed by a farmer at the local government office is circulated through the relevant district offices online and it reaches the district collector without delay.

The licence, cleared by the collector, reaches the taluk office online and the farmer gets it within a week from the date of application at his doorstep.

No delay, no long waiting in front government offices. The entire licencing process in the district is made online for the first time in Gujarat, the district collector T Natrajan said.

He said the process has helped the farmers and ensured speedy disposal of the applications.

The collector said, "We have computerised the land records and modernised the administration."

As many as 12,802 copies of land certificate No 6 and 13,334 copies of certificate No 7/12 have been issued online in the state and Jamnagar's share is 2,132 copies of certificate No 6 and 5,558 copies of certificate No 7/12.

Before computerisation, these certificates, pertaining to land transfers, reached the parties involved months after the deal.

Very often, the certificates contained errors and the people had to again approach various government offices to get them corrected.

Jamnagar is next to none in land record computerisation with seven talukas connected online. Jamnagar is also the first to issue digital fair price cards. All the cards are made digital even at the taluka level.

Almost every taluka mamlatdar's office and Lalpur, Dwarka, Khambhalia and Kalyanpur panchayats have been provided voice and data connectivity.

All key offices at the district level have also been connected to the Net. Remote offices have been connected through leased lines and wireless systems. Use of the Gswan network has reduced the telephone bills of the offices as the Net and voice data services are toll free.

 The Net effect

  • The entire licencing process in the district is made online for the first time in Gujarat.
  • Land records computerised and the administration modernised.
  • Copies of land transfer certificats made available online.
  • Fair price cards made digital even at the taluka level.
