Amarjit Chopra and G Ramaswamy today took over as the new president and vice-president, respectively, of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

The new leadership, elected by the twenty-first council of ICAI, would serve a one-year term (2010-11), said an official press release.

ICAI, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, is the accounting standards setting body of the country.

Delhi-based Chopra has three decades of experience in the profession and was the vice-president of ICAI during 2009-10. He has been the chairman of ICAI’s Accounting Standards Board, Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, and Corporate Laws Committee for two years each, besides holding several other posts in the institute.
