In the process of reshuffling the state’s police administration, the first axe of the Shibu Soren ministry fell on Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Vishnu Dayal Ram.
Ram (58), a 1973-batch IPS officer was replaced by the Director General, Vigilance Bureau, Neyaz Ahmad (59) on Wednesday. Ahmad, a 1973- batch IPS officer has been asked to continue in his present post till further order.
Ram, who held the post of DGP twice, has been facing allegations since June 2009 when the Accountant General (AG), Rakesh Kumar Verma, wrote to the state government pointing out alleged “fraudulent withdrawal”of Rs 5.6 crore in cash from the government treasury. Ram has been asked to join Director General, Home Guards and Fire Services.
It may be mentioned that the DG, Vigilance Bureau, Ahmad has been supervising the corruption cases against former chief minister, Madhu Koda and his former Cabinet colleagues, Enos Ekka, Hari Narayan Rai and Kamalesh Singh. Ahmed is due to retire from the service on November 30 this year.
