BJP today accused the National Human Rights Commission of being biased against party-ruled Gujarat, a day after the rights body decided to recommend a CBI probe into allegations made in the Tehelka tapes on the post-Godhra incident riots. |
The saffron party slammed the Commission's decision as "uncalled for" as it suggested that cases related to the 2002 Gujarat riots are "monitored" and "filtered" by the Supreme Court. |
"The recommendation for CBI probe is not only uncalled for but also a case of bias..., NHRC's observations on Gujarat under the UPA government have always shown an element of bias," party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said. |
He went on to add that "the partisan role of the NHRC, particularly of some of its members, towards Gujarat is well known." |
In what could be a setback to the Narendra Modi-led government in poll-bound Gujarat, the NHRC yesterday decided to recommend a CBI probe into allegations made in the Tehelka sting operation after it viewed the tapes. |
The agency said it found the contents of the tape a "fit" case for probe by an independent agency as the allegations had far-reaching implications and raised vital constitutional issues which need to be promptly addressed. |
