While the ministry of human resources development has locked horns with the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) over the issue of fee cuts, the Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID)is planning to revise fees to over Rs 1,20,000 per annum. |
NID is an autonomous body under the ministry of commerce and industry. |

Before the fee cuts were announced, IIM Kozhikode charged an annual fee of Rs 1.00,000, that included expenses on tuition, library, computer, teaching material and hostel charges, for the first year and Rs 1,10,000 for the second year. |

While the average pay package of a NID pass-out is around Rs 3,00,000 per annum, the average pay package of an IIM graduate is around Rs 6,00,000. |
|
"Total expenditure on studies at NID, including hostel and mess charges, is estimated at around Rs 1,20,000 per annum from the next academic session. The fee is likely to go up by around 10 per cent every year," an institute official said. |
