In a first-of-its-kind initiative, National Institute of Design (NID) is all set to introduce a one-year programme at its Ahmedabad campus.
The post-graduate certificate programme in Photography Design will be launched in October, with a seat capacity of around 20 students.
The programme will focus on areas like documentary, news industrial, fashion, portrait, advertising and forensic photography.
While the programme will be anchored by Deepak John Mathew, communication design faculty at NID, the institute plans to have visiting faculty. The photography course will include practical sessions on indoor and outdoor shooting, besides theory classes.
The institute also plans to start more such one year programmes in the near future
"This is the first time that NID has come up with a one year programme. And to start with, we are exploring the subject of photography as it is one area where one is not required to wait for the infrastructure to be set up to commence the course. Graduates from any discipline would be eligible to apply for this course," Mihir Bholey, head of corporate communications and media relations told Business Standard.
Currently, the professional education programmes at NID comprise a four-year Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) and the Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGDPD) of 2 to 2 ½ years duration.
