National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management(NITHM), which is soon to begin degree and postgraduate courses for the first batch of students, is also aiming to develop consultancy expertise in the field of tourism. |
Addressing a press conference in connection with the commencement of courses in the three streams of tourism, hospitality and general management at the institute, C Anjaneya Reddy, chairman of NITHM,and chairman of APTourism, said that the institute will develop experts capable of advising private entrepreneurs and the government on new tourism projects. |

NITHM, which is expected to receive a deemed-university status by next year, offers a two- year MBA course and a three-year BBA course in tourism and hospitality besides a range of PG diploma, diploma and certificate courses, with a duration of six months to one-and-a-half-year. |

The total strength of students is expected to be about 250, which includes 60 students for postgraduate courses. The BBA course will start from July 2005 followed by MBA and other courses. |

Syllabus and courses are designed to suit the present requirements of travel and tourism and hospitality management sectors which require executives who not only manage things but also help to tap newer opportunities in this area, Reddy said. |

According to Narayanan, director-general of the institute, the management has scanned the relevant syllabi of over 80 universities across the globe before preparing standard syllabus for each of its courses. |

"We are not offering any course which I will not recommend to my children," Narayanan said, while assuring a higher level of learning for the students who opt for a career in tourism and hospitality management. |

The fee for MBA and BBA courses is fixed at Rs 75,000, and Rs 60,000 a year respectively. Except for initial support from both the state and the central governments, the institute is designed to run with its own resources. |

According to the NITHM chairman, the institute is expected to achieve self reliance within the first three years. Both the governments have equally contributed to the establishment of the institute which cost about Rs 20 crore. |
