Even as Narendra Modi is being projected as a prospective candidate of BJP for the post of prime minister, JD-U leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has put a spanner by saying that NDA's nominee for the top post should be somebody with “secular credentials”. His views were echoed by BJP leader and Bihar’s deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi. Union law minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid backed Nitish Kumar’s comments, but asked why he even entertained fears that a non-secular person could reach that position. "I think it is a welcome thing. We are a secular country, so our prime minister must be secular,” he said.
