Hence, there is no proposal as of now with the government to provide insurance scheme to journalists, Minister for Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply to a query.

"Efforts were made to frame a group insurance scheme for journalists. However, due to lack of response from the intended beneficiaries, the scheme could not materialise," he said.

In response to another question, the minister said the government has requested the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to give its recommendations for formulation of policy guidelines regarding Television Audience Measurement (TAM)/Television Rating Points (TRP), so as to widen the sample size and bring greater transparency.

To a question on whether the government proposes to examine the existing TRP system, Dasmunsi said the Trai has floated a consultation paper on policy guidelines for TAM/TRP, while the government has also held a series of meetings with various stakeholders on the issue.

He said no other action is proposed without the receipt of Trai's recommendations.
