Interview with Union minister of state for home affairs

Kiren Rijiju, the Union minister of state, home affairs, answers some queries from Kavita Chowdhury on recent developments:

'Tiger' Memon, the 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind, has reportedly threatened to take revenge for his brother, Yakub Memon's execution. How seriously is the government taking this?

We are ascertaining the veracity of these media reports. Such reports of threats and warnings appear all the time; the source of this information has to be probed, before any action can be taken.

What about the death threat to Supreme Court judge Dipak Misra, one of the three who rejected Yakub Memon's final plea against his death sentence?

The issue has been taken up and his security is being addressed.

The government is hailing the Naga peace accord as a major breakthrough but the Congress party has slammed the government for keeping regional chief ministers in the dark on it.

As soon as the Naga accord was announced, all the northeast CMs officially welcomed it.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has said the government did not consult the Congress CMs of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The CMs have publicly said the same.

The earlier reaction of the CMs, welcoming the accord, was their natural reaction. The turnaround by them is purely politics. But, I can assure that this accord will not bypass the sentiments of neighbouring states (of Nagaland).
