The Centre today said it is not possible to bring aviation turbine fuel (ATF) under the purview of the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST), as per the model suggested by the states.

"In the model of the GST which has been proposed by the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers, it has not been possible to bring aviation turbine fuel under the purview of the GST," Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.

The Association of Private Airport Operators has requested the government to bring aviation fuel under the GST, he said.

The GST rollout has already missed the implementation timeline of April 1, 2010, and would not be introduced from the coming April 1, the start of the financial year 2011-12.

GST will subsume most of the indirect taxes of the Centre and the states.

Palanimanickam further said it is not feasible to accede to the request of private airport operators and double the duty free allowances for international passengers.
