Now, PM invites Chinese President Xi to India

In a lengthy telephonic conversation Modi expressed his desire to 'work closely' with China

It seems the new government has not only hit the ground domestically but it has takeoff internationally also in several substantial steps. Besides taking it head-on with all the South Asian leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj have extended engaged practically with the whole world it seems.

Earlier today PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in which both leaders spoke at great length on taking the Strategic and Cooperative Partnership between the two countries to newer heights.

Modi also expressed the government's desire to "work closely" with the Chinese leadership with a greater focus on economic cooperation. Both sides also agreed to maintain high-level exchanges with greater frequency.

Modi also invited the Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit India later this year through Premier Li.

On the other hand, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj spoke to US Secretary of State John Kerry in which both agreed to give the India-US bilateral relations a fresh lease of life amid mounting tensions over both countries' trading and industrial policies.

Both also spoke on the need to enhance the bilateral trading relations to $500 billion in goods and services trade from around $100 billion presently.

Thereafter, during the day the minister had a flood of calls to attend to from countries such as Australia, Canada, Israel, South Africa, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and United Kingdom (UK).

UK foreign minister William Hague and minister Swaraj decided to meet soon for increasing bilateral trade and investment ties.

During the phone call with Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop, both sides discussed the progress made on the civil nuclear cooperation front.

With Canada's foreign minister John Baird, the minister talked about the proposed India-Canada free trade agreement (FTA). Swaraj even invited Baird to attend the upcoming Indo-Canada strategic dialogue.

With Israel's Avigdor Liberman, Swaraj discussed ways to increase bilateral economic cooperation with emphasise on high technology transfer.

Similarly, with South Africa's foreign minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and UAE's Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Swaraj vowed to deepen the ties with them through economic cooperation.
