At a time when India is planning to significantly add to its nuclear power capacity, an Indian has been elected the next president of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).Shreyans K Jain, the chairman and managing director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India and Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam (Bhavini) - the only two companies authorised to build nuclear plants in India - has been voted as the next president at the WANO meeting taking place in Chicago.A release from WANO described Jain as the "architect of India's nuclear power programme". The presidentship is an honourary position with a two-year term.Set up in 1989, WANO was a post Chernobyl formation aimed at improving safety and reliability nuclear power plants across the world. The organisation has over 400 member commercial nuclear units from over 30 countries.
