Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s promise to club the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and other schemes in drought-hit areas is unlikely to see the light of day. The ministry of rural development on Thursday said it had no special convergence plans tailored to the needs of drought-hit states. Instead, it proposes to increase the number of employment days under MGNREGS from 100 to 150.
