The National Ship Design and Research Center (NSDRC), the only ship design research center in the country, is targeting a Rs 25-crore turnover by 2005-06.

"We are confident of achieving Rs 11 crore turnover this year, and cross Rs 16 crore turnover the next fiscal. By March 2006, we would touch the Rs 25-crore mark," said P Sambandan, the director of NSDRC.

NSRDC organised a function to mark its 'Decade of Service to the Nation' at the center's premises on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sambandan said that the center is expecting major orders in ship designing and IT sector in the next two years. We are also expecting major orders from Director General Shipping, New Mangalore Port and a few banks. At present, all are in final negotiation stages. Once the orders are finalised, NSDRC would see more than 100 per cent growth in turnover by March 2006," he said.

Over the last ten years, the ship design and research center executed prestigious orders like hauling up of the Indian Naval Submarine INS Kurusura, conversion of water depth of ONGC's drill ship Sagar Vijay to 1,000 meters from the existing 300 meters, and designing of passenger vessels for Andaman and Nicobar besides several other projects.
