The Rihand Project of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is all set to expand in the next financial year under which two units of 500 MW each are likely to be installed.
NTPC’s Rihand Project General Manager Manas Sarkar said today, “Two biomass units and a solar power unit will be installed. While the two biomass units will be installed in Piparhar and Biar localities, the solar power unit will be installed at Jarha Chetwa village and will definitely benefit hundreds of families.”
Replying to a question on environmental aspects, Sarkar said, “Utmost care has been taken on the environmental front and super critical technology is being used, so that there are minimum particles released into the atmosphere along with smoke.”
The second project of Rihand has been designed in such a way that its cooling system uses the water released by the first system. This way it will affect the water table of Rihand the least.
By January 2012, the fifth unit and by April same year, the sixth unit are likely to start power generation from the project, Sarkar said.
The Rihand Super Thermal Power Project of NTPC gave away the annual safety award on National Safety Day. Manash Sarkar, general manager of the project, presented the winner and the runners-up awards to C&I & CHP.
